Strange Bedfellows

Rigid political ideology certainly does make for strange bedfellows.

The US joined with such stalwart nations as Cameroon, China, Cuba, , Pakistan, the Russian Federation, Senegal, Sudan, and Zimbabwe to support a resolution by our good bud Iran. to deny UN observer status to two gay rights groups.

Nearly 3000 Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) have that status, which simply allows the NGOs to have access to UN proceedings and a presences at UN conferences

US Supports Iran's Anti-Gay Vote in UN

Or maybe its just all part of Bush's visionary thinking to have Condi cozy up to Iran Pres Ahmadinejad and compare notes on those "evil-doer" gays and lesbians before she seduces him into shutting down his nuke program.

The irony of this is that while defenders of the Bush administration suggest that the actions taken against such countries as Iraq are to bring the country out of the 'dark ages' and to create a democracy where everyone is equal, they're supporting a government which is as transparent in its biggotry as these other communist/extremist/dictatorships etc etc etc...

Alia.....Its a shame it takes someone so far away to see the irony in the Bush doctrine to do whatever it takes to pander to P-Ro and the religious right, even if it means sleeping with the enemy on a UN committee vote that would have had so little impact on any major policy of the US or the UN.

But, I guess Bush has to keep those righteous God-fearing, family-value constituents happy! That's all he has left in his corner.

Sometimes distance lends clarity. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of like-minded people in the US though.

Bush is just supporting the right of each soverign nation to deal with these sub-groups as they see fit. After all, it's been the focus of his administration not to meddle in other countries internal policies. :right:
