Fainting Goats

Thought I'd seen this somewhere on the Cellar, but search showed nothing, so here it is.

Fainting goats - no butts about it!!

It's here somewhere but they're still cute.

:lol2: Oh shit, I just laughed till my stomach hurt, good thing the boss isn't in yet. The best is the very last umbrella shot when 8 or so all fall over at once. I'd never leave the house if I owned those things...:rotflol:

ps, I don't remember seeing that video, and I know I would if I had...

A predator would love these delicious and easy to catch creatures.

ashke 11-10-2005 10:28 AM

I guess that's why they're domesticated animals.

I'd LOVE to get some of that footage without the voice-over. Goats baa-ing make me giggle anyway, cuz they sound and look so stupid. But fainting... this is the funniest thing all week. ow. my tummy.

Does this piss off PETA?

Credit where credit is due - Here's the original Fainting Goats Post - just found it

Humans have this too, hypo-kalemic myotonia it's called (i think). It's actually caused by a defect in potassium channels. It can be a problem , for example, when they are crossing the street and for some reason get startled. Their legs just stiffen up and they fall. They know they are falling, but can do nothing about it. There are therapies, but no cures. <-- Info given to me by one of the grad students in my lab whom I showed the video...

Wow! so is it a chemical imbalance or can you develop it? i get something similar in that if i feel any pain, or see blod, or someone creeps up behind me, i want to faint (even a paper cut see's me on the floor and paper white)

What you get IS a chemical imbalance, but it's not related to the faining goat cause' Your feelings/reactions are to do with a fear reaction causing adrenaline to be released which kicks off a chain reaction: adrenaline effect causes widening of the arteries, causing reduced blood circulation, causing lack of oxygen reaching the brain, causing dizziness and/or fainting - it's simply that - or possibly it's all that chocolate you've been eating recently!

no, its genetic and congenital-- you are born with the defective channels.
