American Girl

They make dolls. Expensive, customizable, conservative dollies. They're cute in that Stepford Wives kind of way. But they're anathema to the Mississippi-based American Family Association and the Chicago-based Pro-Life Action League.

Quote:

"Let American Girl know they are making a terrible mistake," AFA chairman Don Wildmon said in a statement.
Quote:

"Parents need to know that this effort to promote self-esteem among girls is not as innocent as it seems," Executive directory Ann Scheidler said. "While Girls Inc. has some good programs, they also support abortion, oppose abstinence-only education for girls, and condone lesbianism."
So, because this toy brand, strongly associated with girls supports an organization dedicated to girls, and their welfare, these groups are calling to shun, to boycott their products. How close minded can you get?! The Girls, Inc. promotion is to sell bracelets that say "I Can". I guess they're saying to their girls "No, you can't."

Get the story here.

Well, we certainly wouldn't want to give young girls the idea that lesbians are human beings, too. And God forbid they be given the right of choice over what they do with their own bodies. Science? Leadership skills? Teach 'em to hate and marry them off at 16 and keep them barefoot and pregnant. Its the Muslim, I mean Christian way.

Hey. Don't get me started.

What the..?

I may not be American but I grew up with this! I read the books! I love the wholesome, strong girls they have! How dare they attack Girls Inc! Outrageous!

And not for any good reason either. What's wrong with these people?

C'mon these are the same people who don't know the difference between a 'magic bag' and a purse and who think they can determine the sexual orientation of sexless furry creatures.

darclauz 10-17-2005 10:53 PM

okay. sexless furry creatures? are we talking about congressmen here?

marichiko 10-18-2005 03:02 AM

Sundae 10-18-2005 07:35 AM

Well, from the "American family" link;
Quote:

The president of Answers in Genesis feels it is necessary to point out that intelligent design is not a Christian movement -- and Christians need to be aware of that, he says.
These people are liars and conjurers too. :fsm:

ashke 10-19-2005 02:25 AM

Still, what I like about the American Girls stuff was their stories about the girls, not their line about evolution.

xoxoxoBruce 10-19-2005 02:40 AM

No, no. American Family not American Girl, was what I was quoting. ;)

ashke 10-19-2005 02:47 AM

OH... ^_^;;; Pardon my lumping names with "American" in it all together.
