10/7/2005: Elephant pitch

Clodfobble sent the above in its enlarged fashion, but I think it tells the story better than the smaller version probably originally found in the full CNN story... about the ceremonial first pitch at a West Michigan Whitecaps baseball game. Apparently, the big pachyderm made an excellent throw: Not only was Friday's pitch thrown by an elephant, but the ball went straight to catcher Chris Robinson's mitt. Fans and players cheered the 9-foot (2.7-meter)-tall, four-ton African elephant named Laura after she flipped the ball high and wide. "I've never caught an elephant before," Robinson told The Grand Rapids Press. "She had pretty good life on her fastball. It tailed a little bit." |
Let's sign her up with the Astros, they lost against the Braves yesterday and I have $20 bucks bet on them taking the playoffs! ;)

Pitcher? No, catcher. She could block the plate for sure!
|
When the Braves DO get to the playoffs they may as well be elephants. In a playoff situation, the elephants could probably play better ball. The masters of World Series choke, they are.

Y'know, capn, I've been to Atlanta in the fall in years past. I was postitively scandalized to see that the perpetual division champs couldn't sell out the stadium for a playoff game. WTF?! There are other places in the country (see my location under my name hint hint) that would KILL for some consistent quality baseball like that.
On a related note, I saw that Chicago won their first home playoff game in the last 29 tries. Now that's sad. |
Wait, so this thread isn't about an elephant with blood in its stool?
|
They are even better at soccer(football) as these videos show.
