Cognitive dissonance, bureaucracy style
If you're a Wiccan, you can be in the armed forces. You can worship freely. But when you die you can't get a symbol of your religious tradition engraved on your headstone.

This should make a fine discrimination case, especially since the Chaplain's Handbook clearly states that Wicca is a religion.

What's the "stars and circle pentacle"?

This reminds me of the Hindu "peace sign" -vs- Nazi Swastika debate. I'd bet a million dollars that if the symbol were something other than a pentagram, they'd allow it. They're worried about misinterpretation by people who see the pentagram as a symbol of Satanism, not Wicca.

I'm sure you're right, Clodfobble.
