Cool, a massive puzzle! I had not seen this before. This xoB WaPo item says "Children sit on one of the biggest Albrecht Duerer puzzles of the world in the Sebalder Platz in Nuremberg, Germany. The puzzle consists of 1700 pieces."

Don't tell me, there's a piece missing...!

Bitman 08-15-2005 01:53 PM

Yeah, the world piece.

I wonder if that piece the kid is holding goes there? duhhhhhhh
Good rainy day activity..... if you own an airplane hangar.

I think this picture is trying to pass itself off as a candid picture of two kids finishing up a puzzle. I don't think that's the case. I think it may be staged, and at a minimum shows two kids messing with a completed puzzle.

When most people do a puzzle, they connect the easy pieces first. The borders and clearly identifiable objects would be the first to go together. The piece they are holding is one of the easier pieces in the puzzle to put in its proper place. It shows part of the eye with a slice of hair as well. At the other extreme, the white skin of the forehead, cheek, and shoulder would be a challenge to assemble properly.

If this was a true candid shot of the puzzle being completed, I think it would be more likely for the kids to be placing the final piece in the lady's massive forehead.

talk about a waste of ink...

Wouldn't a regular size puzzle be just as challenging and probably a lot more fun for kids?

Thinking about it, this could catch on - imagine a giant sudoku puzzle with six foot high numbers (get your heads and hands round that one kiddies) or perhaps a large scale crossword (actually I believe I remember a 1,000 clue crossword being produced, or something of that size...)

Just found it and it's 28,000 clues

I'd actually be more impressed if the pieces were smaller, but maybe that's just me.
