Hard-line Islamic clerics in a northern Indian village have declared that a woman's 10-year-old marriage was nullified when her father-in-law raped her -- and ordered the mother of five to marry the rapist.

The fatwa, or religious edict, was issued by Darool Uloom Deoband, South Asia's most powerful Islamic theological school known for promoting a radical brand of Islam that is said to have inspired the Taliban in Afghanistan....

The fatwa ordered Imrana Ilahi, 28, to separate from her husband and treat him as her son because she had sex with his father....

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh on June 29 supported the fatwa, saying: "The decision of the Muslim religious leaders in the Imrana case must have been taken after a lot of thought....The religious leaders are all very learned and they understand the Muslim community and its sentiments."

The response of Ilahi's husband is worth noting: "My father is dirty and you are clean. I still love you and I cannot desert you." The Ilahis and their five children have fled their hometown.

So... couldn't she marry the father-in-law, and then have sex with her ex-husband, thereby nullifying THAT marriage and being ordered to marry her husband again? I would expect them to kill her for having sex with another man, not order her to marry him. :confused:

They could have ordered her to be killed, so this is a more humane option.

Doesn't make it any more sane though.

Now, now, you have to realize that people in other parts of the world don't follow the same precepts you do and their customs may seem strange to you. But you have to learn to accept people's beliefs if they work for them. Kumbya. :angel:





btw, The father and every one of the judges should die a slow and painful death for being so fucking stupid.

these two statements kinda contradict each other, no? Also, these 'beliefs' don't seem to work for the husband and wife much. :(

FIFTEEN men convicted of gambling have been caned in public in the first implementation of corporal punishment since Indonesia's staunchly-Muslim province of Aceh adopted Islamic law in 2003.

An official dressed in a green robe and a green hood administered between six and 10 strokes of a rattan cane to the convicts in an event that drew a large crowd and was broadcast live by a private Jakarta-based news channel.

The punishment was carried out on a specially erected stage outside a mosque in the district of Bireuen after Friday prayers.

Aceh acting governor Azwar Abu Bakar was present and hugged the convicts after they received the punishment.

The first one was sarcastic. I don't think I've ever heard anyone use the word "Kumbaya" in a serious manner. ;)

Isn't it customary to hug after a good caning? That's what I ... uh, I've heard people do ...

How can it be stupid if religion says what is right and what is wrong? How can it be stupid that 8% of priests would be pedophiles and the Pope does virtually nothing to solve the problem? How can it be stupid to send a Children's Crusade to save the Holy Lands only because the church says so? How can it be stupid when the Oracle of Delphi tells man what he must do? How can it be stupid when people are tortured and murdered in the name of a god - the Spanish Inquisition? At least nobody expected the Spanish Inquisition .... So why are they stupid only because they blindly believe their religion?

Maybe the problem is religion itself? Or are religious people just that stupid? Questions that may appear to be facetious - or maybe not.

People are just that stupid. Take away all religion, and people will find other causes to hide behind while they steal, kill, rape, hate, cheat, and otherwise abuse each other. Take away their guns, they use knives and sticks. Take away all money, they'll kill over livestock. Someone will always exist who wants to hurt you because it makes them feel better or because it gets them something.

God doesn't do this stuff, we do it.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!
