6/15/2005: Gay pride in Poland (vs USA)
http://cellar.org/2005/GayPridePoland.jpg
xoB points out the differences in the images of different gay pride days. The first is in Poland and according to the full story, the mayor of Warsaw banned the march but 2000 marchers showed up anyway... and were treated to this. I'm happy to say the image from Washington was much better. http://cellar.org/2005/GayPrideUSA.jpg |
Go US! (For a change...)
|
Not to dampen the mood or anything, but if you read the article the young man in the red shirt is actually an "anti-gay protestor" who was detained, not someone out there marching in support of gay rights.
Can't speculate on what he was doing that made the police decide he needed to be arrested, of course, but just for clarification's sake... |
neither of those pictures features assless leather pants. Where are the assless leather pants? DAMMIT! I want to see heavily mustachioed manly men in assless leather pants.

Why is it that each US "Pride" parade serves to further marginalize the group that wants to instill pride?
|
What do you mean?
|
Most of the pride parades start out that way and wind up being a "protest".
I think people whose lifestyle is not "the norm" would be better off to lurk quietly in the background. But NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!............. |

It's a freak festival. It is not a family event, unless your family is already really fucked up. It is not a means of honoring the accomplishments of people who are doctors, lawyers, police, firefighters, tailors, deli counter workers, etc. who also happen to be gay. That's what I mean by marginalizing. I feel the same way about "Pagan Pride Festivals" which usually occur on a much smaller, and much less noticed scale, but have the wierdness turned up too. |
Maybe it's just that the people who are willing to actually BE in a parade are the weirdest ones with the most time? Aren't these things scheduled for mid-day when most people are working or something?
