Must. Escape. Election. Bullshit.

Tonight, I want nothing to do with any color-coded maps, electoral votes, or exit poll predictions. In its place: a "Re-instate The Draft" party! (draft beer, that is) Darts, beer, and music at a pub that doesn't have any televisions. November 2nd should be a celebration of your right to vote, a return to normal junkmail, and no more mud-slinging ads on television! Anyone else planning to escape the media freak show?

Go on, you know you want to. Rent a movie! Have sex! Read a book! Don't you dare flip on CNN who, by the way, already has a counter in the corner of the screen up to the time when the first polls are closed.

Because, dammit, Cartoon Network isn't going to save me this time.

I fully intend to completely immerse myself in video games tonight. From about 4:30 to bedtime, I'm going to be either building civilizations, piloting mechs or guiding a rather ineffectual wizard on various quests and missions around a flat, disc-shaped world that sits on the back of 4 elephants which in turn stand on the back of a giant cosmic seaturtle. And maybe I'll eat dinner too.

Dagney 11-02-2004 10:46 AM

I'll be at work - and therefore secluded from the media. However, I still have mMode and #121 to keep in touch with the news. (If I decide to use it!)

I just recently got Neal Stephenson's new book System of the World, but I haven't had a chance to start it yet. Tonight's the night.

My wife actually made a comment last night that we should have gone to bed early so we would be all rested up to watch the results tonight. She and I are usually on the same page, but I want nothing to do with a TV tonight.

elSicomoro 11-02-2004 10:55 AM

Unfortunately, I can't stay up all night like I did 4 years ago--I'm employed this time around. But I'll be hanging out with Tom Brokaw and Chris Matthews until the wee hours...and I'll be providing my own commentary over at the Bosque.

What can I say? I like politics...especially making fun of politicians and the talking heads.

I'm getting all my election coverage from the Daily Show (10-11pm). Outside of that, I'm not sure who I'll flip to at 11. Probably C-Span, see what they're covering.

OnyxCougar 11-02-2004 11:31 AM

I get home at 8pm and will play City of Heroes until 10 or 11 - ish, then it's off to bed.

I will get up at 6am, watch Touched by an Angel on DVR and a couple episodes of Family Guy, then get back on CoH until 10:00am, when it's off to work.

At that point I'll log in here and see who won.

:yelsick:

There's a game????

I like your plan. I may have to observe variations of your plan. I have a world to explore. Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck are helping me. Unfortunately, I have been away from Kingdom Hearts long enough that I have forgotten some of what I've already accomplished, and may have to (sigh) start over and redo some of the more tedious bits.

My old TV finally bit the dust over the weekend, so I couldn't watch the election coverage at my house if I wanted to. Is that perfect timing or what?

Elspode 11-02-2004 12:30 PM

The wife and I are going to buy snacks and watch election returns until we fall unconscious. I have no idea why we are infatuated with this, but we seem to find some sort of drama in it all.

And there's nothing to be ashamed of! I'm going to bed now. Tomorrow I'll get up at 6 (it's now 22h42). I have my oral defense of my end-study paper tomorrow. Wish my luck guys and gals.

I'm get to go work a twelve hour shift from 630pm tonight to 7am tomorrow! YIPEE!!
I pretty much hate everything and everybody right now. Esp this fucking election.

Popcorn and scotch! Until we get tired anyway. :) Gotta watch for the train wreck aspect.
