9/25/2004: The Afghani political campaign
http://cellar.org/2004/afghaniposter.jpg
Posters of electoral candidates campaigning ahead of Afghanistan's first presidential elections in October are displayed on a wall in the center of Kabul. I wonder if the locals are disgusted by the negativity and mud-slinging... |
Is that a woman running for office? She's allowed to have her picture, with no burkka, plastered all over the place?
Those Americans have ruined the place, I tell ya, just ruined it. ;) |
Knowing absolutely nothing about any of these candidates, I'd vote for the guy with the green background in his picture. That's a keen hat :D
|
They look more like the 'Wanted' pictures in the post office than campaign posters to me. :eyebrow:

Want one of those karacul hats? You might want to check out the ingredients first...
http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm...=news.quirkies Mr. Karzai is certainly very stylish, but won't be getting a Christmas card from PETA any time soon. A bit more information about karacul to be found at http://www.hsus.org/ace/12046. |

The problem is globalization. When the style(material) becomes a profitable export, either to the next country or the next continent, the money talks and the sheep die. Sorry sheep, nothing personal, strictly business. :yelgreedy |
The guy with the green background looks just like some character actor - even down to the beard and moustache. I know I've seen that face in a movie... I just can't come up with it.
|
That guy with the green background (president Karzai) looks like Ben Kingsley. Gandhi, Shindler's list and about 40 other movies plus probably 100 stage plays. :)

"Hamid Karzai's famous hat made from aborted lamb fetuses"
I wanna know who came up with THIS fashion tip...yuck. |
Can't help you, Garnet. I'm not THAT old. :)
|
I've heard the women candidate interviewed, she says she has had some real obsticles to overcome and is not given the same opportunities as the men are.
Interesting how some of the guys want to be portrayed so seriously and some are smiling, some in traditional garb and some in western clothes. Does the guy in the upper left look like the guy in the upper right corner less the hat? One guy is reading a book, maybe the Koran? Why does that guy have a huge fountain pen on his poster, is he a writer or does he sell pens? so many questions... |
