9/16/2004: Hung models
http://cellar.org/2004/hungmodels.jpg
Disappointed after the title are you? These are in fact models, and they are in fact hung; 65 feet above the street, by rappelling ropes. It's called a vertical catwalk by the official caption, but it's not clear whether that's the official name for it. They're promoting a store in Frankfurt Germany. |
Marshall Fields in downtown Chicago did one of these last year. I saw some images somewhere...
|
"Vertical catwalk" suggests they're modeling clothes. Isn't 65' a little high for that? Guess not if the clothes are bad. :)

Prank
I'd like to see them set it up so that a 'dummy model' (not one with a low IQ but a fake person - not just another fashion executive - an actual mannequin or something similar) set it up so that the mannequin looks like a person and in the middle of the show comes plummeting down to earth when the cable 'snaps'. I reckon that'd scare the sh!t out of a whole bunch of ppl.
|
Wonder what they get paid to do that? Does it qualify for hazardous duty pay? Actually I've done a fair amount of work with models for fashion and the rate for runway is pretty low.
No helmets and only one belay, you got to have faith in the system here! Not to mention a backache from the anglet they are at! |
Imagine Ralph Lauren trying to play polo on the side of a sky scraper.

In the late 90's I did a sponsored abseil down a twenty something storey bulding but went (as is the norm) backwards. :) The Paratroopers who set it up RAN down passing me on the way! It was hellish scary!
