Stuff In My Backyard

2 Attachment(s)
Part of my backyard is over grown this year so I went on a little tour of it with the macro lens for a closeup view of some interesting stuff out there. I'd bet you'd be surprised at what you can find in your own backyards too.

I started off checking out the *weeds* growing wild. Most looked just like common weeds but these were photo quality IMO.

I never thought I'd say this....but man, that slug is almost....(ALMOST) cute.

Those are REALLY cool 404. The color saturation is great!

For a minute there,, I thought we were going to see pictures of old trucks up on blocks, dead refrigerators and rusty swingsets.

This stuff was a lot better than that.

Thanks for the accolades everybody! I'm using an Olympus C-8080 with the built in macro setting for these pictures. I used Irfan View to crop and slightly enhance the color and contrast although the camera does take some great pictures as is. These backyard shots came out so well I think I'll try my hand at some pond life next.

Nothing really gross, though, okay?

I'm really impressed with the ant one. Most ants don't stay still unless they are eating something. How did you get that shot? And how many tries did it take?

Did you use a tripod, or were these all handheld?

They all look outstanding.

I really liked the ant picture too. I followed that damn ant around the plant he was on forever waiting for him to stop long enough to focus on him. When he did finally stop I snapped a few quick shots and in this one he looks like he's looking back at as if to say, "what are you following me for?" The Daddy Longleg was pretty much the same story, took a whole bunch of shots trying to get most of him in focus wasn't so easy. The slug of course wasn't going anywhere in any hurry so I got some great shots of him.

I did have a tripod handy but didn't use it for most of these shots, mainly because even at it's lowest setting I couldn't get close enough to the ground to use the macro so I just handheld the camera and kept snapping hoping for the best. That's the beauty of digital, no wasting expensive film!

A big old bullfrog and maybe some cool looking plants is my target, I'll try to stay away from any gross slimey stuff!
