8/20/2004: Baby squirrel rescued from hurricane
http://cellar.org/2004/babysquirrel.jpg
Happy Friday! They aren't sure how many days old this little guy is, but it's definitely days and not weeks. He was dropped off at an animal rescue facility in Punta Gorda, Florida, the day after Hurricane Charley rolled through. |
Awwww look at him! He's got the beady-eye look going for him already.
|
[99's cat, Freddie] Oh, goodie! In a few weeks he'll be ready to eat! [/99's cat, Freddie]
|
Wow, he's tiny, but has a huge head! I'm not sure if he qualifies as cute quite yet, but I'm sure it won't take long.
|
So tiny to have survived such a storm--his mommie must've had the babies well covered. Isn't it amazing such a helpless thing survived! If he were a baby racoon he'd be a Rocky for sure.

I've mentioned before, a friend of mine runs an Urban Wildlife Rehab Center up in MA. She has trouble understanding that most people consider these critters vermin, in the city. I just smile and give her money.

What a wonderful person your friend is Bruce, I wish we had raccoons over here in Oz, I love them. We do however have our own cute wildlife, I used to help rescue them through an organisation called WIRES. Hope that little fella lives. :biggrinlo

I had a friend who was a wildlife resuce person. She had a squirrel that size and explained to me that not only do you have to feed them almost constantly but one must also message their tummies to get them to expel the waste as these organs don't do it on their own at that stage. It's a fulltime around the clock job!
