Ad Hoc Group Recommends an FY 2005 Increase for NIH of 10 Percent
 
Let me just say right now that I'm probably going to contribute a lot to this forum b/c of my own health situation. Let me start off by contributing this article about funding for NIH research:

Fiscal Year 2005 Recomendation Summary:

Scientific opportunities and public health needs demand long-term sustained growth, both scientifically and operationally. The Ad Hoc Group supports this new paradigm. We respectfully ask the Congress and the Administration to support an increase for NIH in FY 2005 of 10 percent over the previous year to enable a new path to discovery.

I think monies are better spent doing research and development of new health care procedures and treatments (See above), than redesigning the electronic infrastructure to standards that were designed by Legislators that can't figure out how to use their computers. (HIPAA - which covers a multitude of sins....)

I agree Dagney. I wish I could find the website that detailed how various gov't. monies are allocated to the many illnesses/sicknesses. However, this website is interesting:
