Light transmitting concrete

I have seen fire retardent concrete , colored concrete, concrete with hair in it , with steel wires in it , concrete that will set up under water , and concrete to repair bridges that will harden in a day or two , but this is new !!

Makes me think of slow glass a concept explored by the SF writer Bob Shaw in a number of stories, glass that traps and stores light, slowely releasing it over time..i.e. Light of other days as linked above

That's cool, Zip. In the picture above, it looks like the stack of blocks are being held down to the channel on the floor by three tie rods with plates and nuts on top. Yet the rods don't show a shadow because the optical fibers bypass the rods. That means anything like reinforcement or utilities, within reason, could be embedded in the wall without being shown in shadow. ;)

I would think that if the fiber was wraped AROUND the conduit or structural member then it wouldn't show as a shadow . Alsothink about the fun that could be had with multi color leds , whole pannels of them , you could have a company logo scroll up or down a sky scraper , or at Xmas you could have all kinds of designes like sants flying from building to building in a big city !! Oh and you could have a building that the burgler or fire alarm was going off flash red !!! that would make it easyer for cops to find it . |
It's the walls in Color!! (comment will make sense only to those who have read Only Forward)

OR!
You could really mess with the minds of people on acid. Imagine THAT trip! Brian "who has never used acid" |
Am I the only one who suspects painted concrete and a staged photo?

It sounds like they just put glass strands in it, like fiber optics. If you've ever been to Epcot and stay for the night fireworks, you'll have already seen a very early application of this -- the sidewalks twinkle, sparkle, and have all sorts of colorful light patterns embedded into the concrete. The blocks can be found just before you exit under the "Spaceship Earth" ball. If you venture away from the main exit paths, you'll find extremely beautiful ones with intricate, spiralling patterns near the gift shops. |

The images in the concrete are invisible during the day. |
