When you have a hankering for the exotic, Lansdale is not the first place I think of, but turns out to be a good place to go.

I went there with some friends this past Saturday because our first choice (a bar/restaurant with televisions) was overcrowded with people who didn't know they were going to be watching the St. Joe's Hawks lose.

The Oasis has a wide variety of Middle Eastern fare. We selected a family style dinner called the Almaza ... $14.95/person which included a wonderful variety of tasty treats ... hummus with pita, falaffal, cauliflower in yogurt sauce, shish kebob, some thing I don't remember the name of but was beef and pine nuts in a falaffal crust that was deep fried, and a greek salad.

The place is BYOB but has a nice selection of juices and teas, and a fruited iced tea that you just can't drink enough of!! They'll bring it out to you in some really neat looking pitchers to save wear and tear on the waiter for refills. They also offer arab-style after dinner coffee in a demitasse which is thick, extra-black, and can have a touch of cardamom added for more of that middle-eastern essence. Desserts are cheap (under $2) and served on a big silver platter, most of them involving wonderful amounts of honey and cripsy goodness. The honeycake and baklava were joyous!

I had my first M.E. food experience when I was invited to dinner with a good friend of mine who was taking beginners belly dance classes. The place was called Marrakesh, and it's in DC. Here's what we had to eat .They specialize in Moroccan food. It was interesting how they served it all, in courses. In addition, there was fabulous belly dancing. I think there are a couple of places in Philly and surrounding areas that feature live dancing. I would love to try Fez Moroccan Cuisine and the Marrakesh on South Street.

Speaking of South Street, I'm slowly becoming addicted to that part of town. It reminds me a bit of when I used to party in Georgetown. :)

Heh, just had a great hookah memory. A friend of mine had a housewarming party, and he actually bought a 4 footer from a head shop in Fells Point (MD). It had like eight hoses coming out of it, and it looked like a damn octopus!

Let's just say after that night, I don't remember much...:D
