They're apparently making a new War of the Worlds movie with Speilberg directing, and Tom Cruise as lead. Hinky.

Well, so much for THAT project.

Hey, the scientologists make great movies... didn't you see Battlefield Earth?

Gah... now I need to go scrub my brain with steel wool to repress the memory of that movie again.

For those who didn't know - Scientologists hate Psychiatrists, which is why in Battlefield Earth, the aliens are called Psychlos, and their ruling caste is called Catrists. So the most evil of the evil beings are the Psychlo Catrists.

I'd like to see an adaptation done that is faithful to the original book, as a period piece, rather than modernizing it.

Here's one that is somewhat faithful, here and there, but it is a period piece. And not a movie (yet).
