Chernobyl
I wandered across this website of a woman who has ridden her motorbike through the 'dead zone' of Chernobyl on several occasions, and has taken a lot of incredible pictures.
Definitely worth taking a look at ... better from the nice safe distance of the internet than up close and personal. Her commentary on the photos also makes it very interesting. |
wow.....very cool.
I've always wanted to know what a city looked like if everyone just suddenly left... |
I was looking around for other sites with the same types of images ... nothing as extensive as this collection.
I did find one interesting one ... may have to try to find it again. At the same time that people were evacuating their homes, new ones were still being built because it was part of the "five year plan." |
Wow.

That was an incredibly interesting site.
This woman must be fairly well off, with the motorcycle, dosimeter, etc., wish she'd spend a litle money on a decent camera. |
When I first read this I thought 'Is she nuts?'. She obviously thought this out. Of course, we only have a little more than 100 years experience with radiation, and many of the early practioners, which included many very intelligent men and women, died from it.
This does not even consider the soldiers detailed to watch nuclear tests. Still, she's made her choice and is doing her best to moderate the risks involved, including dealing with literally the fallout from her government's failed energy program. If Bush wins a second term, maybe he can hire her as our next EPA director. |

Noone here thought of Wasteland when reading her story? It's sad how what is really cool as a game is utterly depressing in real life.

Angelfire nuked her site.
I blame Irwin John Finster. |
That's the problem with free hosting, once your traffic builds beyond a certain point, you're dumped.

Hey Wolf, it's none of my damn business, but do you subscribe to totalFark by chance?
I saw those pics there of all places. Incidentally here is a mirror of that site. If it's the same one, which I'm pretty sure it is. |
It's not a mirror. He reconstructed the site, so it would not be lost when Angelfire took it down. There's a couple extra pictures that weren't on her site when I saw it.

Danka Bruce, the anglefire site was down by the time I got to this thread, I guess this guy has a bit more bandwidth.
