3/1/2004: Peruvian mummy

http://cellar.org/2004/peruvianmummy.jpg

Egypt the only place you find mummies? No, there are other places and one of the biggest is Peru. The Incas did some mummification, as did some other cultures there. So now when workers went digging to build a new sports ground for a school, this is what they found. A man age 35, and a boy age 5.

And the man was so well preserved that, well, that's his EYE dangling there.

Imagine, digging up some ground and that's what you come across. They figure these mummies are pre-Inca, but I must admit that when we get into the fine details of different civilizations... my eyes glaze over...

I believe that woman in the second photo wants to pet the mummy.

Makes me glad I don't live in Peru. I'd hate to think the bodies I buried in the back yard, aren't deteriorating. :worried:

It's a shame we can't all be preserved pre-death.

Sure you can, Leah. Get pickled, tonight!:)

I'd like to live for a long long time. Not that I'm afraid of death but I'm interested to see how the human race progresses in the next 100 or so years. IMHO we're at the stage in the information age that things will start to REALLY happen. I compare it to the industrial revolution. It's an exciting time to be alive!

We now return you to your local programming...:D

There was a movie that Mel Gibson did about freezing himself in the war time and awakening 40-50 years later. What was that movie called?

I bet his face is gone because they whacked it off with the shovel when they 'found' him. Sucks to be an artifact...

I don't remember where I saw it, it may have been here, but the national group of morticians and embalmers is suing the cryonics people on the basis of them performing unlicensed post-life care.

Not even death can protect you anymore.

Found it:

http://www.reason.com/rb/rb022504.shtml

"Arizona's state legislature is about to consider one of the silliest pieces of "consumer protection" legislation ever devised. Earlier this month, Arizona state legislator Bob Stump (R-Peoria) coolly introduced a bill aimed at regulating the activities of the nation's largest cryonics facility, the Alcor Life Extension Foundation, under the authority of the Arizona Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers."

Thanks Brigliadore, I'm terrible at remembering names of movies.

Just installed my first ever DVD player last night, (actually I stuffed it up so a friend had to re-wire it for me) so now I can catch up on some old and new movies, but I'm more of a doco person.
