www.afghan-web.com has been shut down

I found this site last night via Google.

It is (or was) an English language website for the Afghan news.

I wrote them a SCATHING e-mail, accusing their country of harboring terrorists, and I'm sure many others have as well. I even called them pig-fuckers, which I'm certain is a worse insult there than it is here.

Nobody yet is sure if bin-Laden is responsible for the latest terror, but it doesn't matter!

Even if bin-Laden is not in Afghanistan now, they are still responsible for enabling him to pursue his previous proven attacks against my country.

The site is down now, but I would encourage everyone to flood all Afghani sites with e-mails regarding your feelings, and hopefully they will give him up! Let them experience a little cyber-terrorism of their own. At least no one will die!

Pig-fuckers!

sleemanj 09-13-2001 01:48 AM

Taliban are the bag guys, not the Afghans in general

Like the subject sez.

The USSR and the USA screwed over Afghanisatan more-or-less causing the breakup into the rival factions. Unfortunatly the extremist Taliban has been the one with the weapons and has seized control of 90% of the country, while Joe Bloggs the Afghan cowers in a refugee camp or lives under extreme control, at risk of losing his life for looking the wrong way.

Do not persecute a country for the actions of a few. That would be like saying that you Americans are all pig-f*ckers becuse Mr McVeigh committed a terrorist act.

Like I said in a post in the image of the day forumn, 20000 Americans will be murdered this year, at the hands of thier fellow Americans in homicides across the country, but not even that makes all Americans pig-f*ckers, does it ?

serge 09-13-2001 06:30 AM

Let's not forget who backed (supplied with weapons and trained) anti-Soviet factions.. which actually included bin Ladin.

The fruits of imperialism are sometimes hard to swallow.

Why? What the did the Afghans do to YOU? As sleemanj pointed out, living in Afghanistan is not pretty. The Taliban are an extremely militant group of folks who use twist religion against their own people.

Not to mention, did you consider that some of those folks may trace your IP address back and report you to your provider (depending on what exactly you said)?

It certainly DOES matter. Take a look at what happened in Chicago last night. More anti-Arab rage that is senseless.

I'm all for kicking ass and taking names. I want to see those responsible punished severely. Admittedly, I waver between public execution/whatever it takes-style force and showing mercy where no mercy was shown. But we need to first:

--Know who was responsible
--Find out if a foreign state sponsored this

Pig-fuckers!
You're angry...you were concerned about friends of yours that may have been there. So taking your anger out on people that we have not confirmed to be responsible is justifiable? Hardly...

Undertoad 09-13-2001 09:26 PM

Hey, Afghans are friends of the US. Just a few months ago, we gave them $140M because they promised to stop growing poppies.

NBN, i hate to say it but you are starting ot sound liek a fucking idiot. Blind attacks, gneral arab hatred etc will only make this WORSE. What oyu gonna do next, firebomb a mosque? Bin Laden is under house arrest, i'm sure they'll hand him over if the US can prove because otherwise they wil be bombed back ot the stone age (although they are not far off already).

99.99% of the arabic/Islamic community DO NOT support this. Please, keep this in mind. I for one beleive those responsible deserve something pretty dand. And anyone who preaches this kind of hatred to kids, who become suicide bombers should be lined up and shot.

A curious relationship between bin Laden, the Afghanistan government, and the US. It was US support (Red Eye missiles) that turned the tide against the Red Army invasion. The Taliban remember this. However they also received great support from bin Laden and they also remember him for that support. But they are not comfortable with bin Laden. For example, when bin Laden setup an interview with an ABC News reporter, that reporter had to be smuggled into Afghanistan bypassing Afghan army checkpoints because the Taliban would not approve of bin Ladens political commentary and the attention he creates.

For Afghanistan, it has been a love / hate relationship - albeit degenerating over the past 10 years. For those who only listen to Action News, Afghanistan is only an enemy. It is not that simple. Using simple logic, then all Israelis are enemies of the US because its current government is so racist - so violates human rights - has created war, massacres, international instability, and almost world destruction - a nuclear war.

If the American Israeli relation is currently love / hate, then the American Afghan relationship is hate / love. It is just that Afghanistan has a greater and increasing percentage of religious extremists compared to Israel that makes those relationships so different.

Where in these relationships can you create enough emotional hatred to use profanity? Only if your news sources are Action News meaning that all this is unknown to you.

True but it is the nature of islam that makes it so dangerous. I dont think jews encourage anywhere suicide attacks saying youll get into heaven with a few virgins and family members...

Afganistan is not the enemy. From a marxist point of view you could argue that the US has done this entirely to itself, or more accurately capatilisim has because it encourages the exploitation of poorer people creating class conflict which is alot of ways, is what this is. Extremeisim in all forms rises when people are pissed, Right wing in Germany after the second world war, the communists in Russia under the Tsars etc. This is another example of this except more purely religious. But i digress, afganistan is not htem enemy, the Taliban are. They are not alone.

Nor does Islam...it is a small group that distorts the tenets of the religion.

This is partially true. The US trained people like bin Laden after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1980. What apparently has caused bin Laden to hate the US is the fact that we occupied Saudi soil during the Persian Gulf Conflict. He feels that we tarnished the holy sites during our stay there, not to mention our alliance with Israel. But by that rationale alone, given that most Arab countries have a weak peace with Israel, he should hate most of the Arab world.

Now who's looking like an idiot?

Yes, I am angry.

But I never said Afghani = Muslim Extremist, or even Taliban. I do believe that people get the government they deserve.

True, my government supported Afghanistan via money, arms, and training, but against invading Russians! We even boycotted the 1980 Olympics because of this issue. What was wrong with that? Is it our fault that they have apparently turned against us?

Certainly many of these rebels may now be present-day Taliban. Actually, the United States doesn't much care about the internal affairs of Afghanistan, we have few interests there. Until it harms us. Frankly, I feel we have shown too much restraint in dealing with their support of known terrorists, and the terrorists themselves.

As the Taliban is in control of all communications in the country, one must assume that websites originating from there also controlled.

I never advocated violence against Muslims.

My question is: what has the USA done to Afghanistan?

I disagree with what McViegh did, but some of you are trying to paint me with the same brush. Extremism in any form, left or right wing, when accompanied by violence, is dangerous. The current regime must do the right thing in helping to bring these criminals to justice, or face the consequences. The whole world demands it. Or else it will be a war, surely. I hope not, for both sides.

NBN

Most of the last two centuries of Afghan history has been marked by fights over its control. Russia and Britain, then the Soviet Union and the United States. Afghanistan was also primarily a monarchy until the early 70s. Based upon these factors, it would seem unlikely that the people had a lot of say in a government of their choosing.

Sadly, it could be. While the US may have had some humanitarian concerns, it was more of a Cold War battle. We used a lot of countries as pawns in that game. Add to this our support of Israel, the sanctions of Iraq, and the Palestinian situation, and you create a highly volatile situation.

After the Soviets withdrew, Afghanistan wasn't much of a factor...until it was known that Osama bin Laden was hiding there. At this point, according to what the government has released, these are ARAB hijackers, meaning they could be from one of 20 or so countries in the Middle East or North Africa (and Afghanistan is not an Arab country). The only role that Afghanistan really has in this is the issue of bin Laden...and they're still trying to figure out if he was indeed the mastermind of this.

Did this website specifically mention itself as a voice of the Afghan government? Or was it an independent website pulling news from Afghanistan?

Quote:

No, but you advocated cyber-terrorism against Afghan web sites, which is really no better than what has been occuring here in the States over the past 4 days. bin Laden has a huge support staff, and I'd be willing to assume that most Afghans don't care who he is, nor do they support him. Writing an e-mail to, say the Afghan embassy or Afghan mission to the United Nations, protesting their harboring of bin Laden, seems reasonable. Calling them pigfuckers, and sending them a "scathing" e-mail when the US is still not certain of bin Laden's involvement, is not.

Quote:

See above...primarily, we played them like a cheap fiddle. Does that justify anyone bombing 3 sites in the United States? Of course not! Does it give us some understanding behind the "why"? To me, it does. Of course, the Taliban government has been making some statements over the course of the past few days that will only flame the fires of a possible war.

Agreed. Hopefully, Pakistan will play team ball and exert its influence on the Taliban.

jaguar 09-15-2001 02:19 AM

I could not have put it better myself sycamore =)
Particularly the last bit, what has the US done to Afghanistan?
HAHAHHA
Apart from instating the currant regime because they thought it was better than those evil commie bastards nothing at all....They fueled the war that has ripped the country to shreds because of their ideological POV.

Quote:

Remember that?
Basically implies: I don't care who did it all those damn Arab bastards are going to pay for this rahrahrah were America no one can fuck with us coz were the best and we don't have to be responsible for our actions coz we're America!!

Ok bit of an exaggerating but u get what I mean.

Syc, what I was saying earlier is bigger than any regional conflict or the aims or any individual terrorist, this is beyond individuals (I really am starting to sound like a Marxist, history wise I swear)

Quote:

It’s the fact that his apparent reasons for hating the US are illogical should point this out, it simply is a class war, on a global scale. If you fuck over half the world population for a couple of centuries what the hell do you expect? The US has been manipulating the Middle East to its advantage for decades, no wonder the people there are annoyed. Rich bastards screwing up their homeland to line their pockets.

And yes I know these people distort Islam, I have been told this many a time by Islamic friends, some of whom are now afraid to go out into the street. One bloke spat at us in the street today so I let him have it but that is another story. Religion tends to be used as a wonderful tool for tin pot Hitlers.
*sighs*

Yes, your right you still do look like an idiot. Tw is correct, emotion charged responses now are the biggest danger.

True. Sadly. Any war that comes out of this will be the messiest, most underhand war in recent times.
