German man seeks person to eat, and finds him.

A German man (Meiwes) was convicted today to 8 1/2 years in prison for eating another man. They met on the Internet after Meiwes posted an ad looking for someone willing to be killed and then eaten.

Quote:

Meiwes, who said in court he had fantasised since puberty about consuming a man to fill the void caused by the sudden departure of his father, had been in touch with hundreds of people on the Internet, where he posted ads seeking fit men for "slaughter." His desires were such that he made models of limbs with marzipan.

He built a "slaughter room" complete with butcher's bench and meat hook and a cage in the sprawling half-timbered house in Rotenburg near Kassel left him by his late, domineering mother.

The judge said both Meiwes and his victim, a 43-year-old Berlin computer specialist named only as Bernd-Juergen B., had led double lives, with good jobs and "normal" friends who knew nothing of their fantasies, which grew stronger as they found like-minded people on the Web.
But it gets stranger, before killing Bernd-Juergen B they cut off a part of his body, fried it up and then both tried it before Meiwes killed him.
Quote:

With no trace of embarrassment, Meiwes told the court how the killing had begun with him trying unsuccessfully to bite off the victim's penis, then cutting it off with a knife.

They both tried to eat it raw, and then fried it, trying again unsuccessfully to eat it. Meiwes then waited for hours until the victim, weakened by loss of blood from his wound, fell unconscious shortly after calling out that he needed to urinate.
I have no words to say how messed up this is.

It's really choking, but I'm shure it's not the first time this happened and it will happen again...
The problem they had in court, was to prove if it was murderer or homicide or manslaughter (I don't really know if in anglo-saxon law you have these differences), because the "victim" was approving what was happening. An other problem is that in Germany canibalism is not a crime by the law...

The sad part is your right. This is something that could happen in any country at any time. I think the part for me that was so disturbing was not that someone wanted to eat another human being but that so many people answered his ad and were willing to be eaten. The article said something like 200 people answered his ad, that's just a huge amount.

WcDinnels WcPeople is made of people!!!

I would like to read a study of those people by someone who really understands people well.

EDIT: Altered some names to protect the innocent from trademark infringement.

Apparently Hugh Grant bought the rights to turn a film about Meiwes with himself as Meiwes and Brad Pitt as Bernd-Jürgen...

Probably mostly lonely women that misunderstood the ad.;)

I hate to say it, but if both people involved were willing adults, no crime has been committed and the guy shouldn't do a single day in jail. On a side note, I believe they made fun of this in the TV show "The IT Crowd".

You watch The IT Crowd? Radar, there is something else we have in common!

I watched a (non-shock/ horror) documentary on this a little while back. Very sad all round - destroyed lives destroying others,

I'd stand on the corner with a sandwich sign that says, "Free Blowjobs" if I thought I could get a guy to eat.

Srsly.
