OK, I've gone handle

Yes, it's your friendly admin and just your basic regular guy, Tony Shepps. I've decided that there really is no sense in going "real name" if everyone else is operating on handles. I've nothing against handles, and what with this Internet thingy going all over the world, perhaps it's good to add a little mystery to it all.

elSicomoro 08-20-2001 09:06 PM

Funny though Tony...don't you already have a "secret" handle here anyway? ;)

I have nothing against real names, even though I don't care for my own. But "Sycamore" has become an intricate part of my identity over the past 8 years, first as a musical project and now as a websurfer. It's not an escapism for me, or a way to remain anonymous...I'm the same here as in real life. But internet handles (and CB handles as well) allow another "part" of our persona to flourish.

Besides, I can't run for office under the name "Sycamore." That would be a bit silly I think. :)

Terry Blastenbrei

Yes, I did that for a while (the secret handle bit), but I didn't post too much... always felt kinda stupid about it. Well totally stupid, really.

This is much better. This feels natural! Ahhhhh!

Hubris Boy 08-20-2001 09:19 PM

Undertoad?

Well... it's your handle, Tony. Sounds kinda self-deprecating, though.

Give yourself a little credit! It's your board, after all. Surely, none of the Dwellars would accuse their genial host of excessive ego if he were to choose something a little more grand... how about Übertoad?!? :D

jaguar 08-21-2001 12:00 AM

*laughz i agree - has a certain ring
i mostly use jaguar, evolved from years back when my best friend and i (his last name is Panther, their company isPanther Clothing ) did alot of stuff together...
I also use shadowrunner, stolen from the game....Quasi political statement too - how juvenile of me.

Undertoad 08-21-2001 02:05 AM

Undertoad is really from The World According to Garp. Garp's kids go to the shore and they become afraid of the "undertoad", which they figure is some mystical creature. So that's what it is, I'm some mysterious powerful force under the water that you can't see until it kills you. Howzat for self-deprecation!!

lisa 08-21-2001 09:20 AM

Oh! I thought it was kinda like "Underdog." You know? The superhero that I used to watch as a kid? I can just picture this Toad with a cape "There's no need to fear, Undertoad is here!" :)

Hubris Boy 08-21-2001 12:40 PM

By golly, I've got to start reading more fiction!

<hurls Internet Routing Architectures across the room in disgust>

jaguar 08-22-2001 02:25 AM

Going to give up that lowlowlow 333 UserID on slashdot Tony? =)

Undertoad 08-22-2001 08:59 AM

I can't give THAT up! Unfortunately /. doesn't let you change user names. Actually, this software doesn't let you either - I've had to do it myself from the administrator panel. If anyone ever wants to change their name, let me know and I'll take care of it for you.

Slight 08-24-2001 08:10 PM

Yeah Ton... I mean Undertoad, I want the user name 'Tony Shepps', as it has just opened up and I might be able to confuse some of the dwellers:)

Actually, until I found this thread I thought someone had taken over image of the day.

Ian Cunningham.

Whit 08-24-2001 10:48 PM

I don't know about this escapist stuff. Whit is the name I answer to in my daily life. It's an abbreviation of my middle name and actually fits me better then any nickname that's ever been suggested.
Well, there are a few names that seem to stick with me even if there's no connection between the speaker and anyone from my past but I dislike using such language. It sure has stuck though...

alphageek31337 08-24-2001 11:08 PM

Slight: You don't get to be Tony until you learn to spell Dwellar right. Sorry, man

I don't think you're allowed to comment without signing your name.
