Save me Reverend, save me!
I have extolled the virtues of the good Reverend Horton Heat on several occasions. His shows are like revivals...and once you've been saved, you're addicted.
I just happened to check out his site tonight, and as fate would have it, he's currently on tour in the US--and will be here in Philadelphia this coming Friday. Holy fucking shit...I have never hit ticketmaster so fast in my life...well, except for maybe when DM went on tour in '98. But the total time between seeing the date on his site, looking at the venue's site, and buying the tix on TicketMassa was maybe 5 minutes. Tour dates are here. If he's coming to or near your town, and you dig rockabilly, do yourself a favor and go see him play. (UT, you should go with Rho and I. Friday at the Troc--$24. Warch, you just missed him up there--he was there Wednesday. Blowmee, he's playing Stubbs 10/16.) |
This is going to kick so much ass! This will be my...*thinks*...9th time seeing the good Rev? Lessee...
1995: Columbia, MO and St. Louis 1996: St. Louis 3x 1998: Chicago and St. Louis 2000: Washington Yep, 9th show. And he's playing at the 9:30 Club in DC Saturday...saw him there in 2000. Awesome venue, one of the best I've ever been to...maybe I'll go to that show too. His opening acts can be hit or miss. The last time I saw him, Hank Williams III and Dancehall Crashers opened...both great. This time, Southern Culture on the Skids and Throw Rag are opening up. SCOTS aren't bad...I'm currently researching Throw Rag...never heard of 'em. 5 days. :) |
If you make it down here to 9:30, I'll go with you.
|
Oh yeah, bring Tony too.
|
Depends on if he's up for it. He may not like the Rev, since he tends to like "pussy music" (his own term).
I think he'd dig the good Rev though. And like I said, the "new" 9:30 Club is just an awesome venue. Of course, it's in a shitty neighborhood, but they have secure parking. The tix are $24.50 (incl. service charge) for that show. I'll make up my mind by Tuesday. Throw Rag has free songs for download at mp3.com. They're not bad. Shit, what bands have I seen with the Rev? --The Cows --The Meices --He and the Nixons opened for Toadies and the Butthole Surfers in '96. --The Amazing Crowns --Reacharound --Face to Face --The Mighty Blue Kings --Hank Williams III --Dancehall Crashers And several more that I don't remember... |
Rats. I did miss them this time cause I'm a Wednesday night piker. But youse guys'll have fun- I wanna go to the Philly show too! Liquor in the front...and slap that bass till it breaks. Amen.:)
|
I've added the Washington show to my weekend plans. That'll be a great show, I'm sure.
If I were completely nuts, I'd add the Sunday show in Baltimore too...but I'll pass. |
That's a shame, 'cause I'm going, and I already bought you a ticket.
|
Tomorrow is the day...whoohoo! It will indeed rock the fuck out.
Dave, we have got to get motherfucking pad gai Saturday. |
It's actually...
motherfuckin' PAD GAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But yes, I am all for that. |
Ack. I wanna go too, cause its loud and fun so are you. But I'm far away. Someday. You wouldnt mind me coming along if I could, would you?
|
No way. The more, the merrier.
|
Yea, Then I'm at the revival meeting in spirit. :)
|
Well??? You gonna tell us about the show(s) and the motherfuckin PAD GAI or what?
|
Reviews are in the works as I type this. Patience, grasshopper.
(No pad gai though, thanks to stupid ol' Dave. But we DID have Tippy's Taco House, which is pretty damned good.) |
