Wild Sycamoro!

The much feared Sycamoro made an appearance on Griff's driveway this afternoon.

Yeah, I was gonna stop in and say hey, but then I saw that shotgun...

Looks like he's coming out of the woods. Was there any toilet paper stuck on his paw?;)

Nothing But Net 08-28-2003 08:39 PM

No, but there might be a young woman mauled to death back there.

The Pope is Catholic.

He (philadelphius dumpbearus) actually trotted right up our driveway, then took a little detour when he saw me. Really nice looking beast. Thats as close as we've seen a bear here but we lost a birdfeeder a couple years ago and had our trash barrel dumped this summer. The black berries didn't come through this year, I hope he can find enough chow.

On a related topic one of our township supervisors made the most recent Clavarac electric coop magazine with his mountain lion tale. The Game Commission is still using weasle words when asked for comment... reminds me of the coyote situation just before their numbers exploded.

Just how far out in the sticks do you live, Griff?

Griff 08-29-2003 01:01 PM

Not that far out really. I'm maybe 30-35 minutes from Binghamton, NY a town of just under 40,000. We do have our elbow room here on the Northern edge of the Endless Mountains.

The unfortunate thing about the situation is that some folks stock their bird feeders so they can watch the bears feed. That gets the bears who haven't been relocated from an urban area used to people and puts food and people in the same chunk of memory space.

e unibus plurum 08-29-2003 02:16 PM

are you sure it wasn't a chupacabra?

The PA State bear program manager, crawls into bear dens with a rope tied to his feet so they can retrieve him should he be rendered unconscious. After doing this for 25 years a reporter asked the scariest thing he had ever done. He replied, without hesitation, "dating after divorce".;)
