The Conestoga wagons were brutes, they'd carry 6 tons of freight and take 6 horses to pull.
Not all were built in PA as the design was copied down the east coast.
After passing St Louis they were still used for freight but families heading for the west used lighter prairie schooners.
But this is where it started, here in Conestoga, PA.
