I cannot believe I didn't post this already ...

We have a new security camera system at work.

It has the ability to capture images and download them to other media, including video tape and disc. (I personally don't have the privilege level to do this, so I'm at the mercy of others as far as getting images like this are concerned)

So, one day we're watching the monitors and see something that is truly priceless.

To set this up ... all single rooms at our hospital are for patients who do not work or play well with others. Having a private room is NOT a privilege. It means that you are too nuts or too dangerous to be in a room with someone else.

that toilet paper?
stylish pants the guy has. I would have thought the rooms would have been at least kinda padded (too many movies)

wolf 05-27-2003 12:12 PM

Yep, the art supply is toilet paper (which is a big bonus. Much easier for staff to clean up than feces, which is also a popular art supply.) the pants are indeed stylish, and are the finest of hospital scrubs available. At least he's WEARING them. I have an assortment of naked crazy guy stories.

We do have a padded room, which, If I have my rooms straight is next door to this one ... the padded room doesn't usually have a bed in it. Just the pads.

In case you were wondering, we DO give mattresses to our patients ... this fellow, being in seclusion, either had his taken away or, as is commonly done to annoy staff, propped it up against the door so they can't see through the window.

Anybody that wears sandals/thongs with socks should be locked up.:p

wolf 05-28-2003 12:18 AM

THAT has already been taken care of. ;)

(those are our giveaway flip-flops/shower shoes. Trust me. For a lot of my clients it's MUCH better that they are being worn with socks. We have a podiatrist who comes in occasionally to deal with some of the more exotic foot fungi these folks come in with. Socks are GOOD under such circumstances.)

Ick, No wonder the guy wants out...

xoxoxoBruce 05-28-2003 08:01 AM

Is that a ball on the floor in the lower left?
The room looks "spartan". I guess these people bring their own world with them but it looks pretty boring to me. Can they have reading materiel or is that up to the dietitian? ;)

wolf 05-28-2003 09:24 AM

Spartan is safer. We're a nuthouse, not Club Head. ;)
This is not the case in a lot of other facilities in the area, which provide a more 'friendly' atmosphere. We're about providing the best treatment possible rather than the cushiest. 'Sides ... if it was comfier people would WANT to stay longer. Our objective is to keep people hospitalized for the briefest period of time possible, and then return them to the community.

That is a ball, but I think it's only more toilet paper.

(We tend NOT to favor potential weapons on the unit, although given this logic no one has been able to explain the two pool tables in the gym)

That room appears to have been stripped for seclusion. The bed is bolted to the floor for restraints (so no furniture rearranging) and the side-table/cabinet has been removed. Point of fact, the toilet paper should have been taken out of the room too ...

The food (she said, ignoring the fact that the last comment was obvious satire) is actually not all that bad. Except Chili night. That's pretty grimmy. We don't have a cafeteria on site, but rather a catering service that brings in prepared meals. Holiday meals are up to restaurant quality. I've worked Thanksgiving and Christmas dayshift and had the turkey, also the patriotic holiday barbecues are pretty good.

Reading material is screened for content ... "nothing of a violent or sexual nature" which pretty much kills about 75% of what families try to bring in. No Stephen King, Dean Koontz, or Maxim magazine. Every now and again some wise ass will try to bring a friend a copy of Silence of the Lambs or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Thank you. They're from the "they're coming to take me away" collection courtesy of MCPH.

I've noticed at work it's easy to spot the people that have significant others that work at hospitals. At least the ones that have no style or shame. :D

Oh for christs sake, does that leave anything worth reading? Is there at least a classics exemption so they can read Shakespear? I don't think he ever wrote anything that didn't have sex and violence...
So, they can read Readers Digest and um... more Readers Digest?

Bitman 05-28-2003 09:02 PM

Simpsons is out. I guess Peanuts is ok, but any scene with Lucy would have to be cut. I'd go on, but wolf, familiar with this issue, is already bored. That, and I'm not that funny.

BTW, I intentionally avoided asking about the art supplies, so I wouldn't have to theorize over why some of it was discolored..

Bitmap 05-28-2003 09:12 PM

hey.. this was pretty cool, wolf. got any other good ones from inside the Nut house?

Heh... that sounds like something I'd do!

Whit, even Reader's Digest runs an occasional sex article. Tho usually from a medical perspective. And there is some violence... those "true life rescue" stories. (I used to read it a lot in my younger days.)

How about some comics? Maybe Archie..... oh wait, they've got Betty and Veronica (not that any actual sex happens)... hmmm... this is tough.
