Please give generously.

I would ask you please to consider making a donation to my friend Big Davy's charity page.
He is, starting today and over the next few days, hauling a 266 pound anvil up our tallest hill, Goatfell (2,687 feet) in order to raise money for research into type 1 diabetes.
Some pictures of the man himself and his Day One blisters can be found on his charity page.

"First day is done. It was brutal. Skin on the fingers gone. But a satisfied feeling"

Enter credit card info correctly.
But in name and address form, enter anything in each blank, ie street, type street, state, type state, it will accept it anyway. ;)

Thanks, Bruce! X

Hey, he's got all summer. :D

You know, looking at the size of that guy, I'll be if he made a harness he could carry that sumbitch up.

limey 05-04-2016 05:30 PM

I did suggest a harness to Davy, but he said he didn't relish the idea of being inextricably strapped to such a weight should it decide to descend precipitately. Or words to that effect.
"Day three. The spirits are up again. Davy felt much better today. His arms are better than he thought. ... So Davy's been whistling and humming ...."

Must have reached a balance point where everything hurts equally. :D

Although this is a wee downhill bit, it shows typical terrain and the current method.

I hope he doesn't injure himself. This looks very perilous. It's like the last thing you'd catch me doing.

Good way to mop up the little balances on these gift cards I have fattening my wallet

limey 05-05-2016 10:44 AM

Thanks LJ. He does have a pal with him (a skinny lanky photographer guy). And lots of determination.

The JustGiving fee structure sounds much better than most.
Quote:

Here’s how we charge our 5% fee
1.You donate $20.00.
2.We take our 5% fee from the donation, with credit/debit card charges.
3.We send all the rest to your charity.

Your donation $20.00
Our 5% fee $1.00
Card-processing fee @ 2.95% $0.59
Total cost to charity $1.59
Total donation $18.41

lumberjim 05-05-2016 11:20 AM

Actually, it couldn't take the gift card. Might be because I don't know the zip code. I checked the balance and the numbers twice. I guess I'll have to break off a piece from my own card.

limey 05-05-2016 04:22 PM

Less than GBP200 to get him to over GBP5,000 (about USD7,500).
Not saying you've got to put up that amount LJ ...
