Jan 23rd, 2016: Skinny Tree

You've heard the old saw, "Inside Every Fat Man, There's a Thin Man Trying to Get Out".
That's not happening, because if I let him out the freedom fries and ice cream will be wanting out too.
But I didn't know trees have the same problem.

What better way to appreciate nature and the wonders of life than with a simply amazing art sculpture like this? In The Hidden Life Within, Italian artist Guiseppe Penone carves out a young tree with an older tree to reveal its past, showing us what once grew inside so that it may now “live in the present.” Inspired by the quiet slowness of growth in the natural world, the artist asks us to take a moment to stop and think about the concept of time and how there’s a common vital force in all living things.

Penone’s practice pulsates with an awareness of a common vital force in all living things. Insights are gained through physical exploration of space. This ongoing exchange between the self and the world can be seen in the way Penone relates his art to nature — an interaction between inner and outer realms. Inspired by the quiet slowness of growth in the natural world, the work suggests a sense of time much broader than that encountered in our daily existence.

I used to do that as a kid eating carrots. It's a lot easier with carrots because the growth rings are more well defined.

Do carrots have branches(roots) defined in the larger carrot?

I read that tree in the first picture took him three years.:eek3:

Yes; not as pronounced, though.

I never noticed that. Note to self, murder carrots. :haha:

Sometime the carrot branches are more defined than others. Maybe when they dry out a little? I'm not sure.
