Interest in Music Genres

Digital music News charted the interest in these music genres from 2005 up.
No real numbers just "interest over time"

From Google’s beta-stage measurement analysis of topics, designed to accurately measure overall interest in a broader topic area, not just one specific search term.

Results are relative to previous interest, but Google doesn’t offer absolute search volumes.

The public's interest does not reflect my own.

Results skewed by youth.

I wonder if it's how often the name is searched for on Google? Why would I search for rock music? Maybe it includes searching for lyrics and they throw that song into a category.

The best music in most of the genres is in the past. At least it seems that way to me. There are a lot of reasons for that which include the stranglehold the music industry has on the artists.

Only in the electronic genre do you find a largely 'unregulated' landscape where artists can get their music heard and where the public decides who 'makes it' and who doesnt. Kind of like rock in the 70s and alternative in the 80s.

Are those just charts of people getting older?

Why do people want less classical and more jazz in the fall?

Classical when they're reelin' in the heat, jazz to fetch their pumpkin spice shit.;)

Incidentally, some of Metal's roots (along with a few other genres) can be found in Classical music.

Why do classical and jazz have very definite wave forms with regular periods, and the other charts seem to be random? I bet it has to do with the academic calendar and students studying those topics.
