Gout

I spent all day at the Tomah VA Urgent Care. And they tell me that I have gout. It hurts to walk or stand. They gave me prednisone. After making me wait for 6.5 hours in a wheel chair, I was fit to be tied when they finally got to me.

Ouch. Gout hurts a lot, Mr Limey gets it. Did they give you any dietary advice?

The only thing they told me is to contact my provider. I have since learned that red meat can cause it, so I'm re doing my diet again.

Gout is a motherfucker. I still get attacks occasionally, even after gastric bypass.

There are a variety of things that can affect it. What helps me the most is lots of water and rest. I've had some attacks last a month. These days, they last at most 4 days.

Eat a small amount, about 1/4 cup of dried cherries every few days. Works for me.

fargon 10-07-2015 08:42 AM

Thanks buster, i'll get some today.

Gravdigr 10-07-2015 12:54 PM

Gotta tell Auntiedigr about the dried cherries.

Thanks Buster.

I was told that cherry juice worked also. A lady said she found some at Krogers.
GNC is too damn high. IMHO

I've not been diagnosed with gout, and I'm only about 50% sure what it even is, but...

For the last couple years I've had occasional (but regular) shooting, burning pains around the side of the balls of my feet, near the big toe joint. Pulling a bedsheet across it feels like laying a red hot poker on the side of my foot. Excruciating, at times.

A couple weeks ago I ran across this thread, and Buster's dried cherry prescription. I started eating a handful every few days.

The pain I think is gout, has damn near disappeared. I'd say an 80% reduction in frequency, and probably the same in reduction of felt pain. The shooting, burning, pins & needles in my toes (that I figured is from diebeetus) has lessened by about 50%, as well.

I'm Gravdigr, and I approve this message.

Stop and don't ignore Clodfobble like I did. Get your blood sugar checked.

BTW, I went without the cherries for several days, and the pain returned.

I went to Wal-Mart at 3a.m. for dried cherries.

Undertoad 11-13-2016 11:08 AM

Still.

The timestamp on these most recent posts just jumped an hour ahead.

Weird.

Shit, now they're correct again.

Weirder.

Yeah, I need to do that.

I used to monitor my sugar with one of those little meters that use the chip/card/thingie. My numbers were always a little high, but not outrageously so. Usually around 250.

But, yeah I need to get a little control over it.
