August 25th, 2015: King of the Cacti
Here he is, King of the Cacti.
Look at that crown made of baby Cacti... He could be a Lannister! Bow before your prickly overlord. http://cellar.org/2015/crested-saguaros.jpg OK I lied, it's not a king, it's just a Crested Saguaro Cactus, but pretty damn impressive, and pretty damn rare. If I were a Saguaro I'd vote for that succulent, elect him king. :yesnod: Quote:
Regional battle royals to whittle down the posers, then the winners in February Madness to fill between the superbowl and basketball madness. Or jousting, on Donkeys with... no, they can't ride. Poop. link |
Pretty sure they don't poop, either.
Cactus poop...Sounds like a medical condition. A painful one. |
looks like a mandelbrot cactus

Is that a racial slur? http://cellar.org/2015/willy_nilly.gif

A docent at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix told a story about one of these crested Saguaros.
One of them was rustled - a hiker noticed it was missing, he'd seen it for years and then it was gone. Some time later (I can't remember if it was months / years / whatev) the hiker was driving through a neighborhood in suburban Phoenix, and there it was! He alerted someone at a state agency and big trouble ensued. |
Great story, gozar. Each one is an original, easy to identify. After they discovered there are 2000+ of them, those have probably all been photographed.
