New Archos 20GB MP3 Jukebox
I bought a 20GB Archos MP3 jukebox this past weekend. It holds up to 500 ALBUMS of MP3's.
So far I have been ripping and loading 5-10 cd's a night from my collection, which is LEGAL (god bless the supreme court and 'fair use'). I bought the unit for $200. I purposely chose the older jukebox player with the USB 1.1 over the player/recorder/fm radio which was only a little more expensive (actually it's on sale this week with rebates for the same $200) and has USB 2.0. a) I don't have USB 2.0 on my machine, and by the time I get a new computer, I will have everything loaded. b) The player uses standard NiMH batteries, so I can take spare sets of batteries and an external charger (there is one built into the player) and charge extra sets as well as have spares on hand. The new player/recorder has a rechargable lithium ion which is probably more expensive, hard to find, hard to swap out, and hard to find an external charger for. |
peh, nothing on the 20G ipod :P

Hey, let him have his toy and have fun with it. :) In a few years something will be better than the iPod and people will laugh at you and me for having them. :)

I want the one that has the FM transmitter, so you can set it down near your -- or anyone's stereo and enjoy the love.

iPod
I just got one of those here.
Amazing speed (6 MB/s to and from my PC). USB 2.0 is better than 1.1 for several reasons, chief among them the fact that the popular chipset (the NEC) for it, has 3 USB 1.1 engines and 2 USB 2.0 engines on it, and can handle multiple USB connections better. For $30, it was a good choice (and I can put it in other PCs and Macs later). I know someone who just got an iPod because their Archos jukebox literally self-destructed on them. It fell apart. This was the second one I saw fall apart this way. However, I hope they've improved their quality. Oh well, off to install Xplay. Mitch |
