How many combinations of three chords are there?

3! allowing for no repetition

or 3 to the third to allow for repetitons

I was thinking about how many unique songs could be composed without repeating any chord progressions, assuming let's say a 3:30 song with 4 verses. Probably something like infinity to the eighth power.

But most of them would sound like shit.;)
