Cool project for the kids.
A week and a half ago we trimmed a few frozen braches from an apple tree. The kids placed them in a mason jar full of warm water and put them in a sunny window. Within a few days the buds swelled and the leaves appeared. Now the flowers appear to be developing. The kids are absolutely enthralled watching the spring growth while its still snowy and in the single digits here.

S-n-o-w? I don't know this word, "snow" And you mean it gets colder than 50 degrees?!
Yesterday, it was beautiful. I drove around with the top down on my convertible soaking up the sunshine. Gotta love Los Angeles. Oh, except for the traffic, smog, high price of living, and rotten job market. But other than that, it's great! |
You obviously don't live in Compton.

My brother lives in LA so I fully understand your confusion. I believe that occasionally water, similar to that which flows from a tap, falls from the sky landing in the LA basin. Follow close here...part of your refrigerator is really cold and there's frost in there. Well that "frost" is actually frozen water like in a pina colada. In my part of the country if we want frozen drinks we can walk "outside" (the space between the car and home/work) and retreive this precipitate will nilly as it falls from the sky in its frozen state. Seriously man, I shit you not.

Nope, I'm straight outta Compton!
Thank you.. I'll be here all week.. Tip your servers! Oh, and this whole frozen water falling from heaven. You've gotta be shitting me. And I thought LA was weird! |
I got my kids started on planting mammoth sunflowers 2 years ago. As soon as it starts getting warm they start asking. This year they have already started digging on odd spots to put them. We only fight with just a few things while they are growing before they can enjoy them: Cats, dogs, rabbits, deer, really rainy weather, and most common problem which I think is cute is the kids...lol:)
