Human Shields
Everybody probably remembers the nutjobs that were offering themselves as human shields in Iraq ...
Well, looks as though some of them FINALLY figured out, "Crap, this might actually be dangerous " and are heading home. |
I certainly hope that once they reach home, they are arrested and charged.
|
Puh. I take that back, I would only like them charged if they do act as actually human shields and somehow survive.
|
From the story: "Almost all of the first British "human shields" to go to Iraq were on their way home last night after deciding that their much-heralded task was now too dangerous."
Fucking pussies. |
NPR did a really good story on this on Friday. Here's the link: http://discover.npr.org/rundowns/run...ruary/28/2003. It's under "'Human Shields' Position Themselves in Iraq".
They interviewed an American human shield volunteer, then they interviewed someone who was taken hostage and forced to be a human shield. Personally, I'm a bleeding-heart peacenik, and even I think that the voluntary human shields have been very, VERY naive. |
There is a little more to it, they were there to guard civvies, they were asked to guard military installations, that's why they decided to head home.
The whole things was a little silly, shit even to take it that far shows a certain amount of faith in your beliefs which is more than you can say for most people. |

Yes, you're totally right. They've acted on their beliefs in a strong way and a lot of folks don't have the balls to do the same. I just think they could have done more productive things with the time and money they spent doing this. They've probably done more damage to their position because of their perceived chickening out. Silly people. Human shields are for hostages.... (yes, I know. I'm going to hell) |
