Special occasion cooking
1 Attachment(s)
I thought I'd start a thread for the types of food you cook especially for events or holidays.
To start off, I have an offering of cupcakes. There's a big football match here tonight, and I traditionally make cupcakes which are themed for the two sides. My side wear maroon jerseys, and Daryls side wear blue. The maroon ones are chocolate and raspberry cake. The blue ones are blue cherry. They needed a bit more cooking. I think the type of cherry I used should have been drained a bit more. I don't really care about the blue ones though. They're losers anyway. Attachment 44287 |
Striking, certainly!

Very pretty! But I have an almost irresistible desire to see one of those smooshed into the loser's face. And I'm someone who has never been impressed by slapstick, especially involving food.
What are the teams, Ali? |
It was the State of Origin. Game one in a best of three series. Me and the kids were all born in Qld, so we support the maroons. Daryl and Katie were born in NSW, so they support the blues.
Qld have won the last seven series, so we were pretty cocky going into this one. Unfortunately, NSW jagged a win under some fairly controversial refereeing decisions, so we now have to win the next two matches which will be played 3 and 6 weeks from now. |
You know what? I am as ignorant now as I was when I asked the question.
But I'll contact Hannah and pretend :) |
Rugby League Sundae. lol It's a competition between Qld and Nsw to see who breeds the best footy players. ;) You play for the state you first played footy in, no matter where you live or who you play for now. It's a pretty fierce competition.
|
Rugby league and footy are two different games. Jus' sayin' ...
|
Rugby League, Rugby Union, Australian Rules, Football etc etc. Is tiring.
But I am still impressed by the cupcakes and next time I am secure in funds I've no doubt I'll be showing off some special occasion cooking. Although I admit mine will probably be savoury. Who knows, maybe it will even be from Arran :) |
I was going to make desserts this weekend for a farewell party for some of our residents, but the party date was changed last-minute. I'll get pics later in the month when we hold the party. I'll probably do a lemon meringue pie, a key lime pie, something chocolate, and something with strawberries. That way I'll cover all bases and have enough to go round.
|
those sound delicious. I haven't had lemon meringue or key lime in ages.
|
Not exactly for a special event, but yesterday I juiced 27 lemons in order to make fresh lemonade.
3/4 cup lemon juice 3/4 cup honey 2 cups hot water You just melt the honey with the hot tap water in a 2-quart pitcher, then add the lemon juice and enough cold water to fill the pitcher. Tastes even better than sugar-based lemonade. (27 lemons got me about 3 cups of lemon juice, so I can make 4 pitchers of lemonade.) |
That is a LOT of lemons.

Thank you, Life. Ahhhhhhhhhh.....
