How do you hide a FB friend's crazy talk on your newsfeed or timeline or whatever?
A few years ago an ex GF contacted me on LinkedIn. It had been almost 20 years since we split up so I replied to her. That was about three years ago.
When I signed up for FB I wasn't careful enough when I let it scour my email addresses and it sent an invite to her. Now we are FBfriends and I get these semi- regular emails about how I was the love of her life. (I think I mentioned this elsewhere on the cellar) anyway, she's cooled out with that but is now responding to way too many of my posts. I would like to make her invisible to other people on my newsfeed/timeline or whatever. Is there a way to do that? I would rather not unfriend her because she'd just email me incessantly or decide that she needs to come see me. |
Maintain YOUR boundaries. Your first duty is to yourself, not someone from decades back in your past.
a. Ask her to stop. Politely, clearly, simply. b. If that doesn't work, Unfriend her. If she gets all stalkerish, tell her to stop. If she doesn't, call cops. But it probably won't come to that. c. Invoke "The Woodchuck Solution". Save that as a last resort. ;) |
FB keeps changing the location of its tools around, but you can set it up so she doesn't get to see the stuff you post, so she'll never know she's missing anything. She'll just think you don't post as often as you used to.

glatt's direction would work for most people, but I get the feeling she stalks your page so it won't matter if you are in her newsfeed. She is coming to visit anyway.
Go with nice, but firm STOP or unfriend. IMO, you are going to end up unfriending here one way or the other. Get your settings right, right now. Make sure that no one sees squat if they are not your friend. No public nothing. |

In the meantime I'll also try to find the tools that Glatt mentioned. |

Don't feel like I've missed a damned thing. :) |
I probably have the fewest 'friends' ever on fb, but I know all of them. I hate the constant fb intrusions into personal privacy and try to fend them off. If it weren't a good way to keep in touch with nieces and nephews who would otherwise drop off my radar, I wouldn't do it. But it has its uses.

Oh, you're being eaten
by a Face Bookstrictor, a Face Bookstrictor, a Face Bookstrictor. You're being eaten by a Face Bookstrictor, and you won't like it... one bit. Well, what do you know? It's nibblin' your toe. Oh, gee, It's up to your knee. Oh my, It's up to your thigh. Oh, fiddle, It's up to your middle. Oh, heck, It's up to your neck. Oh, dread, It's up to your head. Oh, you've been eaten by a Face Bookstrictor, a Face Bookstrictor, a Face Bookstrictor. |
You can set up what are basically mailing lists and when you post stuff you can choose the list that gets to see it. I have a list for immediate family, one for relatives, one for hometown friends growing up, one for local friends, and finally one for everyone except 3 really annoying people. There are also the defaults of all friends and public. I mostly just use the list that excludes those 3 jerks, but all the lists have seen use. I think once you post with a particular list, it becomes the new default, so that can get confusing.
