What a $100 cake looks like

1 Attachment(s)
3 servings coconut flour = $2.36
12 duck eggs = $12.00
1.5 cups raw honey = $3.00
1 cup grapeseed oil = $2.35
2.5 containers special-diet frosting = $15, plus $35 rush shipping because I fucked up
Additional homemade frosting after I figured out how to make it myself = $3
Payment to my friend the cake decorater = $25 giftcard

Total cost of cake = $97.71

Giving my special-diet girl the perfect cake on the first birthday she's been aware enough to really understand = Priceless.

Of course now that I've nailed down the frosting process, the cost for that will go down from $53 to about $8 when I have to do it all again in May for Minifob's birthday. Plus his theme is Legos and I feel confident I can decorate that one myself without my friend's help. So his cake will only cost $27.71. Eh, you live and learn.

Beautiful! And priceless. :)

Worth every single cent.

(TWELVE duck eggs?! now I know why you queried the price on Borough Market - you need to start keeping ducks, m'lady!)

Is Mr Clod fair?
You have very blond childer.
I know why the step-childer are dark (dark and beautiful), I just wondered.

Brown hair, blue eyes. Minifob looks exactly like him, and his hair turned definitively brown around age 3. Minifobette, on the other hand, looks like me to the point that others have mistaken childhood pictures of me for recent pictures of her. I started to go dirty-blonde around age 10 and didn't get to the current light brown color until my early 20s. But I still have the rosacea--I mean, uh, adorable rosy complexion.

Do any of the adults here recognize the character on the cake? I know all her friends will, but it's not the most well-known.

I actually considered it, but I came to the conclusion that they wouldn't do well in my small suburban backyard, and my neighbors would hate me. It's only so many because I'm cooking with coconut flour, which absorbs liquid like a beast. There's only 225 grams of flour in that whole cake. If it had been almond flour instead, there would have been 3 times the flour and 1/3 the eggs.

Sundae 04-13-2013 09:54 AM

Recognising the character; but of course!
It's that green... monster... thing with teeth?

Ah, no.
Enlighten please Ms Clod.

Oh and if it turns out to be American-only then I win, okay?

Chocolatl 04-13-2013 10:55 AM

Is it the little guy from that game where you cut the rope so he can eat the candy?

Awesome cake, awesome mom. Happy birthday, minifobette.

xoxoxoBruce 04-13-2013 11:01 AM

Gosh, I wonder what Clod does in her spare time? :lol2:

footfootfoot 04-13-2013 11:51 AM

That's an adorable girl you've got there Cloddy.

"Mommy, when can we unwrap the cake?"

xoxoxoBruce 04-13-2013 11:55 AM

Yes, looks like Mom. :yesnod:
