well, not really. She's in the hospital. Had a stroke last night. We're all heading out to see her this morning.

Well wishes much appreciated.

Just returned from hospital. They're keeping her another night which really REALLY pisses her off (if you can imagine a 79 year-old pissed off head cheerleader0

Sunday skeleton crew. We got there at 10:30 and she'd had nothing to eat (you ORDER via the telephone and via menu what and when you want- my mom can't remember that!) so we got her food and as soon as it came up they took her to MRI. It being Sunday, the MRI won't get read till tomorrow. She no happy lady. No happy at all.

They didn't have a HOH listing on her dry erase board, the freaking idiots and you could tell her anything, like, oh, hey, your house just burned down and she'd just smile and nod like she knew what the eff was going on. I went up to the nurses station (they were having high level discussions about the movie Magic Mike so I can see where they'd be too busy to LOOK AFTER THEIR PATIENTS) and said, "Hey, you got a dry erase marker?"

Startled nurse, "Oh, yeah...."
hands me marker.

I write in big green letters VERY HOH!!! and then I handed them her POA/living will papers. They knew not to fuck with me then. Really, though, come ON. I know it's Sunday and you hate working and fuck this weekend crap but DO YOUR DAMN JOBS!

eta: in today's hospital, if you don't have at least ONE advocate you are fooked. And fooked good and hard and then sent a bill. It's disgusting.

limey 11-04-2012 02:16 PM

Crikey, Tril, that sucks big time!

How frustrating. Do your damn jobs, is right. Glad she has you for an advocate because you're right, an advocate is necessary.

It sounds like she is stable so far ... ? Very glad of that. Hopefully she can get home into familiar surroundings asap.

Re the HOH, my father, who is profoundly deaf, had the same issues in hospital. The nursing staff just DID NOT choose to get it and breezily talked while they were facing away from him, or mumbled, or whatever - they never took it seriously no matter how many people I talked to. Utterly frustrating.

Sorry to hear that, but glad you're taking charge and making things right. Don't forget to take care of yourself, too.
