Wear a rubber, old boy!

BigV 10-25-2012 06:31 PM

They're faster than HDDs, they're more expensive, they're more reliable, physically. They use less power which translates to longer run times on a given battery charge.

A common yet somewhat unknown example of an SSD the hard drive of a basic USB thumb drive.

Yes, an SSD is basically a 'big flash drive'

It is faster, more reliable, and uses less energy because it has no moving parts.

Side topic:
Are they still making those spinning drives with an SSD cache? Anybody ever used one of those?

Solid state technology.

Welcome to the '60s.

Now that everyone has jacked-off any recommendations?

BigV 10-26-2012 06:57 PM

what makes you ask?

are you deciding whether or not to get the ssd in a new computer or not?

busterb 10-26-2012 08:05 PM

Yes, I'm thinking about one for the OS and program files.

Do it. My gaming rig boots up in about 15 seconds. Snap snap snap.
Get the biggest and baddest. See the thread in tech forum called gaming computer to see the one i went with.

I'll get back to ya later Jim. I bought a MB(Biostar TA790gx a2+) back awhile "long while" ago, no drivers for win7, Then the web site was down for like forever. Other day I hit on it, and all the drivers were there..
So win7 w/8gbs ram. 500 GB sata drive. Antec 750 PSU. I've forgot which AMD CPU and video card. Dual DVDs. Trying to find someone who can see to help me put it together.
One guy said he would, but I don't want to listen to his come to jc bs.

When he gets it working, say "thank god" and throw him out.
