Limey foodblogs

In support of Ibby's plan here's my foodblog. I can't guarantee pictures, but will try to include everything I eat and drink for a week. Friday evening onwards may be reported late as I am hosting a music event at the bunkhouse down the road for the weekend ...
Don't be put off by how this starts ... :). In my recent weightloss success story I twigged that portion size is a BIG part of the problem, and in Britain at least, it is typical to pour out a MAHOOSSIVE bowl of cereal in the morning. I'm not that hungry in the morning, but do want to eat breakfast, so I decided that one easy way to consume less was to measure out the regulation bowlful of cereal. The other think I measure out like an obsessive is yoghurt, because I buy a 450 ml tub and like to get 5 portions out of it.
Sat. morning
45g bowl of no-sugar muesli, handful of raisins, semi-skimmed milk
Pint of filter coffee with semi-skimmed milk
(shall we just assume from now on the milk is semi-skimmed always?)

Two slices of malt loaf and butter. I don't do marge, I kid myself that I do butter in small amounts instead. In fact, so long as I've not got any bread (or malt loaf!) in the house I probably do only do small amounts of butter ... :)
ETA: Swiftly followed by a clementine.

I've never eaten marge in my life.
When I was starving myself for my wedding I used low fat cream cheese for any savoury sandwiches, and avoided anything I would normally top with butter.

I was told I could never lose weight eating butter and cheese, but it's all about controlled portions. I did switch to skimmed milk though, and have never really missed semi or full fat.

I can't bear skimmed. Tastes like bad water. You're right about the portions though. My plan was never to give anything up, just to control portions and, if necessary, increase the quality!

Six crackers and cheese, plus tomatoes. The tomatoes are tiny, about an inch in diameter.

A word about cheese .... I like it a lot, too, and once upon a time this sort of this was a late night snack for me. Now I try to make it a meal, usually lunch, and add some fruit/veg.

Dinner on the boat - sea bass with dauphinois potatoes drowned* in Cullen Skink broth with frizzled** leeks, and a 16oz 7up.
And a banana when I got home.

And Daddy Long Legs

Lovely and crispy they were, too :yum:!
Yesterday's consumption was rounded off with half a bottle of red wine and 90g of Cherry bio-yoghurt* (not concurrently).

This morning ...
45g of muesli + handful of raisins with semi-skimmed milk and a pint of filter coffee with s-s milk.

* The only other food item I actually measure.

limey 09-30-2012 07:30 AM

That was aroun 9am.
11.30am two slices buttered toast with Marmite and a US pint of coffee (up to now my pints have been UK, i.e. 20 fl. oz).

limey 09-30-2012 01:47 PM

1.30pm or so: five rather nasty herb oatcakes, thin scrape of butter, and cheese. 10 tiny tomatoes. A small dish of prunes in juice (it would have been a LARGE dish but we all know what prunes do to the constitution !)
Some time later: an apple
Then: two squares of Very Nice Chocolate (about 1/2 oz?)
Dinner: beef and chorizo stew, steamed cauliflower&broccolli, tiny bit of mashed potatos. Followed by the last 90g of yoghurt.

It helps to know what kind of eater you are. I'm definitely a grazer (although I love a good, massive FEAST now and again as much as the next person ...), so I kind of plan to have little staging posts through the day, in the form of fruit, or yoghurt, or chocolate ...

Yeah, I've settled into a usual pattern of 5 small meals a day. I go so far as to talk about "second breakfast" and "second lunch," because they're really not snacks, everything is the same size, except dinner which is sometimes a little larger than the rest.

This comment made me take a second look. Sorry but what is that that looks like it has legs? :mg:

Midnight last night: a large mug of Ovaltine Light (it would have been something stronger given the plight of Mr. Limey but I was on call for the local Community First Responders)
8.30am: 45g of muesli + handful of raisins with semi-skimmed milk and a pint of filter coffee with s-s milk.

An apple at about 11 or so, then

Lunch at noon. Tinned steamed mackerel, more tiny tomatoes (I've got an awful lot of these, and bought them right at the end of their shelf life. Every day I have to cull one or two with blue whiskers, as well as eat a quantity!), and Fudge's jalapeno crackers (I'm going to have trouble with these, they're deliciously light and horribly more-ish! They were at a discounted price, perhaps becuase they'd been roughly handled and many have turned into crumbs).
