Outrageous

Vandals break into congressman's office, install Linux on PCs
Quote:

A US congressmen has been left incensed after miscreants installed Linux on computers at his campaign office, possibly thrashing some data in the process.

Michael Grimm, a Republican who represents a district in New York covering Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn, has slammed the weekend break-in to his offices on as a "politically motivated" crime against the democratic process.

"Whoever did this, the people responsible are very ignorant [sic], and they don't understand that this is not just an attack against me or my campaign," Grimm told the Staten Island Advance. "This is an attack against a federal campaign office, which is an attack on our democracy as a whole. It's an attack against what we stand for, for free elections."

Most definitely.

Eh... not convinced.

Eh... not convinced.

How could an attack at a campaign office, NOT be, an attack on our ability to have free elections?

If it's systematic, there could be a problem. If it hinders and/or stops the whole process or throws it into some kind of tailspin (like some of the recent voting laws have), definitely. If it's this one office now, then another office next week, the three more offices shortly after that, for sure. Something is going on.

If it's this one office alone, no. You can't determine a trend from a single data point. Sure, it's not cool (but, as pranks go, was amusing, to me at least). Sure, there are protections (read: sanctioned retaliation) in place in case something happens to a facility like this one. The potential loss of invaluable (read: 'priceless' or 'worthless', depending on your point of view) data gathered over months, if not years, is no small thing and really really sucks.

But an "attack on Democracy as a whole"? Nah. Free elections will continue to happen regardless of this event. We won't fall into a dictatorship because none of that campaign office can navigate Linux or know what to do with it. Democracy and free elections will continue to exist and happen whether or not this campaign office gets punk'd.

do you feel Ohio's attempt to restrict early voting as an "attack on our ability to have free elections"?

In marble halls white as milk
Lined with skin as soft as silk
Within a fountain crystal-clear
A golden apple doth appear.
No doors there are to this stronghold,
Yet thieves break in and install Linux.

Lamplighter 09-28-2012 08:28 AM

You'd think Michael Grimm would be happy and give them an reward... instead of Linnex, they could have installed Vista.

Is it me or does this guy look like a department store mannequin. I was looking for the 'Men's Suits %25 off' sign.

Can any Republican use the word media without putting 'liberal' in front of it anymore?

"We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country. We will never have the elite, smart people on our side," Santorum said in a speech to the gathering of conservative activists at a Washington hotel.
Well, at least he didn't say 'liberal'. I have to agree with Santorum. Smart people would probably know to stay well away from him.

I'm not familiar enough with the issue of Ohio's early voting, to make a decision on it.

As per the New York Times editor, when explaining their factual errors in the Gifford's shooting in AZ, where the shooter was described as a right wing poliltical extremist :

Our stories are reported within a framework that is chosen for them.

Would you like to take a Wild Ass Guess what that framework might be?

My personal favorite is the Ft. Hood massacre by the Islamist radical psychiatrist. That incident is frequently described by the media as a "workplace violence incident".

What's next? Maybe 9/11 will be an "airline violence incident".

Because we all know that the radicalized Muslims are SO peaceful. They just LOVE us so much, they keep trying to show us all their RPG and AK toys they received for presents. ;)

xoxoxoBruce 09-29-2012 01:03 PM

Nah, everybody is pretty much aware that radicalized Muslims would love to kill us all and will given the chance. The problem is the right wing extremists say Muslims, inferring ALL Muslims, are blood thirsty father rapers. The same way as saying Christians, when talking about the radicalized fundamentalists... or Mormons.

Sorry, that was a joke, not a cheap shot. :o Although it does illustrate that it's hard to tell the difference out of context.

Sundae 09-29-2012 02:34 PM

^ WHS ^
I never managed to say ot so succinctly though.

In future I will just ref the Westboro Baptist Church if I think people are making judgements on all Muslims based on a small but unpleasant minority.
I can always bring sectarian violence into it later ;)

That proves it. "Going Postal" proves the Unites States Postal Service (USPS) is an instrument of Islamofacism.

We are doomed because we see the world in terms of moderates verses wacko extremists. We must be wrong. 'Going Postal' proves that evil Muslims are conspiring to massacre us all. My god. They may even open a mosque in Lower Manhattan adjacent to whore houses and OTC (off track betting parlors). We are doomed.
