loving Australia so far

Been here about a week and a half now and we are really loving it. We spent about 3 1/2 days in Melbourne near the Southbank on the Yarra River and enjoyed checking out the city but damn are prices high for food in restaurants. Granted we were in a touristy area but our average dinner for 2 with a bottle of the red stuff ran close to $200 every night.

Now we are settled into Geelong about 60 miles south, renting a nice flat so cooking in for may of our meals puts us more on budget. Weather is perfect after coming south from Houston; cool springtime with some rain but nice.

Every weekday morning I drive my wife to the Shell refinery and then the day is free to explore, I just need to be back to pick her up at 4:30. Oh and don't even thing about turning left on a red down here, they have traffic cameras everywhere and red means red! I've driven down the Great Ocean Road 2 times already, kind of like the Big Sur highway in California. Over all the people here are real friendly althought they talk kind of funny.;)

3 more weeks!

Photos, photos, photos Chris!
Glad you're loving it. Both my parents and Grandparents liked Oz enough to want to move there if only they'd had the funds.
My bro loved it as a holiday destination, but he's like me, rooted to England. Neither of us would leave here for anything less than true love. Which is what moved Uncle Jim, and he's struggled with it for years.

Thanks and there lies the dilemma. I decided at the last minute before departing home to leave my laptop and just take my Asus Infinity pad (like an ipad) and the photo editing options are real limited especially when it comes to downsizing images to be able to be posted here.

But I promise to post some when I get back. :D

Chris - could you swing by Ali's place and give her a squeeze to get the baby on its way?

Aliantha 09-18-2012 05:56 AM

Haha...you are a funny lady limey! lol

Gravdigr 09-18-2012 04:15 PM

A little squeeze may be how it got started in the first place!

Aliantha 09-18-2012 06:31 PM

...or a few big squeezes...

Ok, poisonous insects I could deal with, but FIRE TORNADOES!?

Snort.

Just to add some nice to the thread, a lickle bit of the Manics.

Well since we're doing tunes I'm not goint to miss the chance to post a clip of my favourite band (well, Swill and Nicky anyway) and a nice live version of 'Australia'.

Sundae 09-22-2012 02:10 PM

Cherry Red records, how could I possibly object?
Like the song too.

My ultimate musical hero is a Kiwi, but he still has an Aussie in his band. And a Merkin.

One of the locals told me the best place to see kangaroos was at the Anglesea Golf Club down along The Great Ocean Road. They were everywhere and seemed oblivious to the golfers and onlookers. And I thought golf courses in the USA had it tough with geese that stay all year.

When you're in Melbourne, watch out for the rhinos on skateboards.
