Quote:

Worldwide, lightning strikes around 50 times every second (more than 4 million times every day). Electrical imbalances generated by turbulent skies are suddenly balanced by a spectacular discharge tracing across a darkened sky -- a display that is both frightening and awe-inspiring.

Nice shot. Lightning isn't so easy to capture well.

unless you're shooting at 1,000,000,000,000 fps.

Lightning is so odd:

First the falling mini-bolts of negative ions flow downward from the sky (for a downward strike), as these mini-bolts get near the earth, they cause an upsurge in positive ions from everything that is close to them.

Then the HUGE power of the lightning bolt races downward from the sky and meets the upsurging positive ions, and follow their "path" - to the extent that it has the least resistance.

All in less time than it takes to blink your eye.
