At first, with no scale reference, I thought they were humans in space suits. But then I figured out what they were.

I'm assuming one is karst. I had to look that up a couple of years back.
Effectively karst is what you see above, and it happens as described.
I won't insult you with a link - if you find the geology in the picture interesting I'm sure you'll go look :)

I thought "Awwww, lookit the little monkeys" and sniggered to myself.
I know quite well they are primates.
