In case you wondered what it's like in North Dakota

It's definitely not full of whores and wild gentlemen of ill-repute, contrary to what those godless heathens at the North Dakota tourism board would have you believe. They recently began an ad campaign pretending promoting North Dakota's nightlife. Complaints from state residents of one "sickening" and tawdry image flooded the department's Facebook page, until they agreed to remove the ad.

You can see the offending image below. But be warned, this is very, very Safe For Work.

I'm sure these young ladies' grandmothers would be rolling in their graves, if they could see what skanks they've become.

i have never being to a place that didn't have whores and wild gentlemen of ill-repute... what's it like? ;)

honestly ever since my year in phily, no other place i've being too can measure up (in terms of whores and wild gentlemen of ill-repute). its the only place i've being that actually had that as the dominant culture. never being to north dakota but i doubt it can surpass it.

Given the reaction from the residents I have decided I don't want to visit.
When "Looking at the opposite sex through a window" is sickening and tawdry, I have a feeling I might not be welcome.

I've pressed my boobies against a restaurant window before.
They won't want my dirty slutty tourist dollars :)

Those girls look like they'd be freaky in the sack. I'll bet they 'pet' on their first date.

Spexxvet 01-17-2012 11:48 AM

Two of those girls look a little too dark-complected to live in North Dakota.

I bet there are a lot of tanning salons in ND.

Excercising my "where is it" skills, I see that this is the Hodo lounge. And it doesn't look entirely backwards.

They have food like this,

and people who either work or go there who look like this.

I played 10 minutes of "where is this" and I believe this is the place:

Why were the Native Americans (that's Indians to you, pale face) the first people in North Dakota?

Because they had reservations!

I'll be here all week! Try the Bison Teriyaki with the Choke-Cherry Wasabi glaze.

I lived in Fargo-Moorhead for years. I worked in bars for Fargo-Moorhead for years. You can't be steps from a place like Rooters or down the block from RomantiX (fka ABC-X) and try to pull of the swanky, chic rep. Sorry, not buying it.

Everything feels like a cheap knockoff. What do I mean by that? You can't sell me a $10 martini IN FARGO if the server is wearing a T-SHIRT and can't pronounce the name of the martini, the booze or other ingredients. You can't convince me your food is going to be good when I ask if something specific from the menu is good and the server says, "I don't know, I don't eat here..."

Last, the customers. Oh man, the customers. Seriously, it is Fargo-Moorhead. One of the best parts of the FM area is it ISN'T Boston or NYC. You don't have to wear stilettos everywhere you go or a suit at all times. Comfort and common sense is the name of the game in the midwest and that is what I LOVE about the area. You walk into the HoDo and people are walking around like they got dressed up to come there! Seriously, fool we KNOW you work at the Zubaz kiosk at West Acres, why are you wearing a suit you bought at Gordman's?! Are you kidding me?!

I want to like the HoDo I really do. It has so much potential to be a great place if it just stops trying so hard!

I don't know exactly what this means, but it's hysterical.

My guess would be that West Acres is a shopping mall. Gordman's is one of those stores like TJ Maxx or Burlington Coat Factory. They sell irregular and overstock items.

glatt 01-17-2012 01:41 PM

I figured it was something like that. And I have no idea what Zubaz is, but if it's a kiosk, it's nothing fancy.

From what I could tell online if TJ Maxx and Olympia Sporting Goods got really drunk one night and got it on in the bushes behind the TGIF Fridays where they had been drinking, nine months later would be the grand opening of Gordman's.
