September 26, 2011 Surfing with a Glow
http://cellar.org/2011/surfing red light.jpg
Pro surfer, Bruce Irons, rides the waves at night off the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia. A lit flare is what gives off the red glow. The whole image is a miracle. It was so dark, the surfer couldn't see the waves. There was so little light, the photographer didn't know how to set his camera to focus. Yet, it seemed worth giving Sam McIntosh's "flare surfing" idea a shot. It worked! via National Geographic Photograph by Jason Kenworthy, A-Frame |
Shark Bait. lol

Neat pic !
A few times in my younger days we camped overnight at Huntington Beach, CA which is known for big waves. For me, it was unnerving to body surf in the dark.... suddenly having a black wall come up in front of you can make you add to the liquid volume of the ocean. |

Did he say, "Wait, hold my beer for me" before trying this out?

Doesn't anyone tell people not to swim in the ocean at night? lol That's when sharks are most active as far as hunting goes. Between dusk and dawn. Just like the vampires! Adding something shiny to the water is like pouring a bucket of blood in for them.
Silly buggers. |
Totally shark bait.
Totally awesome and cool, though. |
OH yeah, it looks cool, but you wouldn't catch me doing it even if I could surf. lol

LED
Perhaps as awesome as the flare pictures below is as a bloke on an LED surfboard riding the waves in near darkness
