Why cant the government just run a telethon for FEMA?

FEMA is broke and the east coast and Texas are desperately in need of financial assistance to deal with the aftermath of Irene and the fires. Congress is stalemated on what to do since the Republicans refuse to add with out cutting somewhere else.

Well damn it, a beg-a-thon would probably fill those coffers right up, doncha think?

You could bake a lot of cakes pretty quickly in those fires. Isn't the car wash in PA and NY?

Sell raffle tickets for an inflatable raft; swim lessons; snorkel and fins; etc.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. Especially actors, who started from nothing to end up making millions. But I was also thinking corporations who pay their CEO's billions should be inclined to donate.

Even each of us pitching in one dollar per disaster would be a tremendous help.

I would do that, as long as it was not mandated in the form of a tax. But the way it works is that this government cannot be trusted to spend our money properly now and I have no hope that if I gave them money to prop up FEMA that they would spend that wisely either. I give to the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and A LOT to Goodwill. At least I know it goes to a good cause.
