How Computers Work, a Ladybird book first published in 1971 and revised in 1979. The site shows the digitized pages from both versions so you can compare the changes in diagrams and technology between '71 and '79.

When I took Fortran for the first time, I flunked it horribly because I couldn't ever get the cards punched right. It would take me hours to find my errors. I simply hated that class. Fortunately, by the time I decided to retake it to get rid of the 'F', they finally had monitors. Fixing any error then became a breeze. I got an 'A-' that time.
