Look at the honker on this guy

That last moose pic was great. I looked around a bit and found this one also. It appears to be taken quite close. Is it real?

although the image isn't large enough to really tell, based on the depth of field (which is pretty limited) I'd say it's a telephoto shot.

I like meeses. We had one running around just north of us (maybe 20 miles) until some jackass shot him for no good reason.

About 15 years ago here in Pa., there was a moose slaying in the south central section of the state. I can't remember the county. The game warden arrested a man for shooting a moose out of season. This particular moose was a trophey moose and attracted a lot of attention because the dumb bastard that shot him claimed self defense. He said the moose charged him and he killed it to protect himself. Funny thing though, he shot him with a rifle, in the anus and through the chest cavity. As I remember this asshead was looking very seriously at a 5 year jail sentence. If your going to shoot Bullwinkle, do it legally dammit. (note: This is the ridiculous joke portion of the post) So anyway, Al Sharpton was on the scene soon after the arrest saying something about "if you're black, even if you are a moose you can't turn your back on whitey" or something like that. :) |
You know, I've decided that poachers are the dumbest of criminals. I believe they think that becuase they are killing an animal any bullshit excuse will work to get them off the hook. They don't seem to realize that yes people do care.

The moose was shot just over the border in NYS, I don't remember if they got the guy. I don't believe that either NY or PA has a moose season. To me its just so pointless, the random moose wanders through scouting new territory maybe even getting a local population going and some dope pops him. I'm not a huge game law guy because they can conflict can with a land owners property rights but for the most part the Game Commission is very flexible about farmers needs and like you said hunting pays for management and a lot of wildland in PA. Not to go black helicopter on yah but how's your local mtn lion population? :)
|
Little known fact: the Pa mountain lion is actually a pet of Bigfoot, and they are both seen equally as infrequently.
|
I'm not sure, but I think that a mountain lion has been in my neighborhood more recently than yours, guys. We had sightings in Delaware and Montgomery Counties about 3 years ago (the big kitty was believed to be on the way to Slower Delaware or somesuch).
We get the occasional wayward black bear too. |

I think I heard the game commission or DNR was relocating them. It's nice to see their numbers increase to the point that they need further distribution. |
